Beautiful times call for beautiful wines. With the festive season in full swing and natural wine being a great present idea both to give and to receive, or to bring to your next dinner party and impress everyone - you can't go wrong with a bit of pet nat. Bonus points if it's got an interesting colour. I must admit I've been saving this one for a while but it's now time to crack open a bottle of Pet Nat Rosé - Weingut Fuchs und Hase, 2017.
The background. First of all welcome to the first Austrian natural wine on my blog! From the Kamptal wine region, Fuchs und Hase (Fox and Hare) work with organically grown grapes and produce interesting, experimental natural wines such as this pet rosé, which is a blend of Zweigelt and Cabernet Sauvignon, fermented in stainless steel and continuing fermentation in the bottle.
Tasting notes. This is a delicate, juicy, bubbly, high acidity, dinner party proof wine. The bubbles are tiny and tingly, fizzy-sour candy style but without all the sugar. The aromas are very light, red fruity, herbaceous, and not at all overpowering, I'd totally pair this with finger food and would make a great wine for aperitivo / antipasti. A good Christmas Eve party starter.
Where to buy? I bought this a few months ago from Terroris East Dulwich, but you can find some of this wine's siblings around London. For instance, Salthouse Bottles are currently stocking Pet Nat Vol. 1. Price range: £20 - £25.
